HREOC HOLDS PUBLIC MEETINGS ON SEX AND GENDER DIVERSITY HUMAN RIGHTS
Public
meetings are being held by the Australian Human Rights Commissioner as part of
the sex and gender diversity project. For the details of the meetings in Melbourne
and Brisbane please follow the link. HREOC also intends to hold a meeting in Sydney in
July.

DSM ON THE BOOKSHELF : AN OPEN LETTER TO WPATH MEMBERS FROM TRACIE O' KEEFE
On May 30, 2008, WPATH
member Tracie O'Keefe sent an eloquent letter to the membership concerning the
ongoing debate about the upcoming revision of the DSM. Her letter
resonated with readers concerned about the DSM's pathologization of gender
variance as "mental illness".

EUROPEAN TRANSGENDER SURVEYEurope published its Transgender Eurostudy carried out by Pfofessor
Stephen Wittel OBE, Dr Lewis Turner, Ryan combs and Stephenne Rhodes in April
2008.
This is legal survey and focuses on the transgender experince of
healthcare. There are some suprising results that find the quality of
patient care can often be low but in some places and at times employment is
height for trans people.

Rights & Equal Opportunities Commission (HREOC) about the
Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) over its passportlegislation

NEW ZEALAND HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION DEMANDS BETTER RIGHTS FOR TRANSGENDER PEOPLE
In 2006 The New Zealand Human Rights Commission initiated
an enquiry into the inequalities faced by New Zealand transgender people. Its
report was published in 2007 and called "To Be Who I Am". It found
that there were several major areas where transgender people were legally, medically
and socially disadvantaged and discriminated against. The report however did not
pay serious attention to the situation for intersexed people.
The New Zealand government is presently trying to address
some of these areas. What is important for Australians is that there are great
similarities between the situation in New Zealand and in Australia

SIGN THE PETITION OBJECTING ABOUT THE PROFILE OF THE DSMV REVIEW COMMITTEE
The American Diagnostic
And Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders is presentley being reveiwed. One of
the Committees that the APA has set up to consider the entry of Gender Identity
Disorders are Zucker and Blanchard who many of the sex and gender diverse
community consider to be transphobic. Zucker advocates reparative therapy for
children and Blanchard is well know for his papers on Autogynophilia. Please
