SAGE Gives Human Rights Award to Rachael Wallbank

In October 2003, the SAGE Steering Committee awarded Rachael Wallbank the SAGE Human Rights Award for her work as the solicitor running the Kevin case. After due consideration her tenacity and hard work appeared to be far beyond her duties as a solicitor and her efforts have considerably added to the equality of sex and gender diverse people in Australia.

The success of the Kevin and Jennifer case allowing their marriage to be recognised has been a major success for the sex and gender diverse community. Kevin, a transman now not only has a male birth certificate but is officially recognised for marriage purposes as a man. A further text on this case can be viewed on our website in a paper written by the solicitor that ran the case Rachel Wallbanks that she presented to a meeting at the Houses of Parliament hosted by the Anti-Discrimination Board of NSW earlier this year.
